Singer turned politician Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert Sentamu has come out to speak about the unrealistic incident that happened yesterday in Seeta, Mukono district where a female police traffic officer was manhandled by the UPDF Officers attached to Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi Maj. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza.
The Kyadondo East lawmaker criticized the incident and called upon Ugandans to be keen about the inhuman events happening in the country.
Bobi Wine added that he is fighting so that police officers work can be appreciated and not demeaned.
“We are fighting so that your work can be appreciated and not demeaned. We are fighting so that you are not harassed by your superiors for doing your job. We are fighting to put an end to this kind of impunity!” Bobi Wine noted.
Remember when I said, “Afande, we are not fighting you. We are fighting for you.” This is what I meant. @PoliceUg We are fighting for you. We are fighting for your dignity. For your well being. We are fighting so that you can be respected in your country- in your uniform. pic.twitter.com/o7lWWO6oeH— BOBI WINE (@HEBobiwine) February 25, 2019
According to the traffic officer identified as Esther Namaganda, she was slapped direct in the ear and brawled by the soldiers attached Maj. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza simply because she stopped the vehicle they were travelling in, and advised them to observe the traffic rules.
In response to the exasperating incident, the army responded by arresting of the culprits as investigations into the matter continues.
In a tweet made last evening by the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) Spokesperson Brig. Richard Kalemire, officers RA/221607 L/CPL Bushindiki Peter and RA/230927 Pte Okurut John Robert, are now under arrest as investigation into the matter continues.
“We have been informed of the incident involving a Police traffic Sergeant and UPDF military Police Soldiers. It is very regrettable and apologies to our Police Sister.” He said.
