The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Ambassador Julius Onen is dead.
Ambassador Onen who has reportedly been ill passed on Sunday evening, Trade Ministry has announced. According to sources, Ambassador Onen had just returned from India where he was taken for further treatment.
“Amb. Julius B. Onen, Permanent Secretary of MTIC, gone too soon. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Trade Ministry announced on Twitter last night.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Diana Atwine eulogized Ambassador Onen and sought comfort for his family.
“PS Julius Onen you have gone too soon .May the Lord strengthen and comfort the family. Julius we shall miss you. Rest in peace,” she tweeted.
DP President Norbert Mao praised Onen as a dedicated, kind hearted public servant who served his country with utmost professionalism.
“The untimely death of Ambassador Julius Onen has robbed Uganda of a public servant of sterling character, a diplomat’s diplomat, a kind hearted and generous man who served with unmatched professionalism. A man devoid of bitterness, he shunned pettiness in all its forms. RIP,” he said.
Before being appointed to the Ministry of Trade, Onen served as PS, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
