President Museveni has joined thousands of Ugandans mourning former Prime Minister Professor Apollo Nsibambi.
Speaking in tweet made this evening, described Nsibambi as a great patriot and a great academician.
“I have learnt of the untimely passing of the former Prime Minister, Prof Apolo Nsibambi,” Museveni said in a social media message.
He added: “He was a true patriot and great academic. The country will miss him.”
Museveni has instructed Prime Minister Ruhakana Ruganda to lead a team that will ensure government gives Prof Nsibambi a befitting send-off.
Nsibambi 78, died at his home in Mengo on Tuesday evening. According to reports, he was suffering from prostate cancer.
Apolo Robin Nsibambi, an academic and politician, was Prime Minister of Uganda from 5 April 1999 until 24 May 2011, when Amama Mbabazi succeeded him.
