Minister without Portfolio Hajji Abdul Naduli has refused to withdraw his comment regarding voting opposition leaders into office.
Speaking to our reporter, Naduli said that there is no way an area is expected to develop when its leaders are at log-heads with the central government.
This follows the related comments that were made this weekend during the Brazilian Catholic Apostolic Youth day celebrations held in Jinja town where he implored the people Busoga to deny opposition MP flag bearer’s votes if they are to see development in the area.
Naduli observed that in the previous election for the term ending 2021, people in Busoga voted overwhelmingly for the president Museveni but left out his NRM Candidates for opposition.
Naduli said this has affected the smooth running of government programs which are often failed by opposition Members of Parliament.
It should be noted during the recent Jinja East Constituency by-elections, president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni begged the voters to elect ruling party’s Igeme Nabeeta regardless of the fact that he was going to just sleep in parliament.
He added that a sleeping ruling party lawmaker who votes in support of pro-government bills is better the vibrant opposition leader.
To the contrary, during this year’s State of Nation’s address, Museveni said one doesn’t have to belong to the ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM] in order to help the people.
“You can’t tell me that you can’t help your people because you are not in NRM or government or in power. I was helping my people when I was in opposition.”
He added: “That is nonsense. You are rubbish, you are nothing if you can’t help your people.”
“You now find that people there are not living in grass-thatched houses. I was able to do that when I was in opposition. If you claim you are this and that but you have done nothing to improve the income of your people then you are nothing.”
He went on: “If you are still thinking that way you are useless. I helped and worked for my people even before I became president.”
