Police has blocked the planned second round of presidential consultations by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
The People Power Movement leader wrote to police seeking clearance to resume his consultations which were blocked last month in seven districts.
His scheduled consultative meeting was supposed to take place on Monday, 24th February 2020.
“Having paid for the venue and done everything else required of us by the law, police did not respond within the 48 hours as required of them,” Bobi Wine explained.
He said the excuse the police are giving this time is that they want him to formally present the demands and proposals made at the meeting with them at the Electoral Commission.
“Therefore, we have yet again written to the Electoral Commission, which body is mandated to oversee all these electoral processes.”
“We have formally shared with them our proposals but also requested them to convene a meeting to harmonise the positions.”
He said the only way the Commission can show commitment to overseeing a credible election in 2021 is for them to prevail over all government agencies to ensure a level playing field.
“We are committed to first and foremost exhausting all these legal avenues.”
In the letter dated February 18, 2020, Asuman Mugyenyi writing on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, told Bobi Wine to put in place the modalities and harmonise his proposals with EC and police for proper security planning and a smooth process.
