Why Gen. Tumukunde Wants Museveni Back to Rwakitura

Former Security Minister Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde has also joined the list of officials planning to take over the country’s topmost office.

The retired Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) officer announced his Presidential bid in the coming election slated for next year.

He joins celebrated singer turned politician Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine  and other political party heads like Rtd. Col. Kiiza Besigye, Democratic Part’s Norbert Mao, Gen. Mugisha Muntu among others.

Whereas section 3 of Presidential Elections Act 2005 Provides in (1) that An aspirant may consult in preparation for his or her nomination as a presidential candidate within twelve months before the nomination before the nomination date in (2) a that he/she may “carry out nationwide consultations wish to notify the Electoral Commission that i will be proceeding to carry out consultations across the country

  2- Mindful of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda which in the preamble, recalls

 3- our history which has been characterized by political

 4- and constitutional instability:

 Recognizing our struggles against the forces of tyranny, oppression and exploitation.

 Committed to building a better future by establishing a social, economic and political order through a popular and durable national Constitution based on the principles of unity, peace, equality, democracy, freedom, social justice and progress:

 Exercising our sovereign and inalienable right to determine the form of governance for our country…”

 My Consultations will, therefore target various interest groups in the county. with a view of facilitating my decisions ahead of nominations of Presidential candidates slated for October 2020 l will communicate those decisions to the EC as soon as possible, in any case during the timeframe prescribed in the relevant lace My consultations will also extend to the currently existing political groupings and/or political parties security agencies and law enforcement agencies the rural population –

 specially farmers, urban dwellers. the youth, women, entrepreneurs, the elderly, public servants at both national and local government levels regulatory government institutions, Civil Society organizations. religious leaders. to mention but a few.

 I will be consulting on local as well as regional and international security issues, economic development, social cohesion and political harmony.

I join other well meaning Ugandans, to support the fundamental change which we promised Ugandans in the past, and a peaceful transition from one generation to another.

 While I expect all the support, that EC can offer me and my team to carry out peaceful consultations as a Presidential aspirant, I pray that the statutory mandate of the EC shall be respected by other organs of the state, and that there will be harmony throughout this important constitutional exercise.
