We got you from school to save you, Please Stay At Home – Museveni to Students
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has echoed a great message to all school going students back home.
In a statement issued this morning, Museveni noted that they got them from school to save them.
“To all children that are back from school, please keep at home. We got you from school to save you, do not start loitering in towns and exposing yourselves to dangers which we were initially avoiding. We did not get you from school to deliver you to a wrong address- Home it must be.” Museveni stated.
He added that they should stay home until all is safe also tasking Parents to have their primary responsibility, to ensure their children are monitored.
“On the issue of public transport, I am calling upon each of you to support us. We still have issues on this particular matter and require effort from everyone. What I can ask of you is; If you do not have a personal car, bicycle, motorcycle, or have no access to one, please avoid unnecessary travel by public means. Where are you going?” Museveni wondered.
He added that the owners of these public transport means, “let us work hand in hand with the ministry to set up specific operations to safeguard our people. There should be place where people can wash hands and some soap. Avoid crowding so many passengers in the car. Some of you want to carry five passengers on seats meant for three people, this is doing a disservice to this country and I call upon our traffic enforcement teams to apprehend such people.”
On Quarantine
On quarantine, I have listened to many views about the expenses involved. We are looking at possibility of using schools (since they are now not operational) as quarantine points so that people don’t spend so much on hotels.
Our biggest set back so far is that our people are superstitious, some head teachers and teachers are saying that if we use ‘their’ schools to quarantine people, these schools will get bad luck. This is ridiculous, why are our people resorting to such thinking at such a time!
All the same, I have spoken to Mama Janet Kataaha Museveni to organise her people and we have this solved.
For the rest of us, I repeat; you have no business anywhere in public if you are sneezing, be each other’s keeper, report cases to availed numbers for follow up. We can defeat coronavirus and we shall defeat it.
