Police Speaks Out On Kyengera Mob Justice Acts

Onyango

Police in Kyengera are investigating circumstances under which a resident was assulated by the community of Mugongo A zone Kasenge area in Kyengera town council.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango, the victim who has been identified as Mr Nsenguyinva Jean was beaten at around 10:00 pm while he attempted to rape a woman.

“It is alleged that the woman made an alarm that attracted the community that took the law into it’s hands,” he said.

In another related incident, one Ronald Kizito was beaten in the area of Nkokonjeru B zone after he allegedly trespassed by jumping over someone’s fence wall and entered the compound.

“Kizito was arrested by the watchman but instead he started fighting the guard which prompted the residents to make alarm thus attracting the neighbors who came,” Onyango noted.

He added that the neighbours carried out mob action on Kizito before he was brought to the police station.

“Because of his condition, the officer on duty didn’t detain him but advised them to go and get Kizito treated before he could detain him,” reads an excerpt.

Mr Onyango further said both cases are being investigated by Kyengera Police Station while the victims were referred to Mulago hospital for treatment.

“No security personnel were involved in the predicament of the two victims,” he said.
