Security task team on Sunday (14 /06/2020) dispersed over 600 mourners who had gathered in Kiryamuli village, Gombe Matugga Sub County, Wakiso District for burial against the Presidential directive on prevention of the spread of Coronavirus.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Asp Luke Owoyesigyire, The territorial Police in Matugga received a tip off from concerned citizens today at around 1400hrs about a burial that had attracted over 600 mourners.

The burial management was not following the Ministry of Health guidelines on public gatherings, social distancing, wearing of face masks and hand washing. We all know that burials were prohibited and simply restricted to scientific burial of not more than 10 people.

This means that the burial was in contravention of the standard operating procedures issued by the Ministry of Health, which prompted security teams to swing into action and managed to disperse the unlawful gathering.

“We also managed to arrest the Local Council Chairman Kiryamuli Cell Fred Banadawa and the Defence secretary Badru Lusiiba who were allegedly the masterminds of this gathering. We want to thank the Public especially the concerned citizens who took it upon themselves and managed to inform us of this illegal gathering.” Asp Luke Owoyesigyire said.

It is imperative to note that it is everyone’s responsibility to make sure they follow the guidelines that have been put up by the Ministry of Health, especially while conducting burials.

The two suspects are currently detained at Matugga Police Station on charges of doing a negligent act likely to spread infection of a disease.
