Brig. General Richard Karemire has been replaced by Brig General Flavia Byekwaso as Spokesperson of the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces.
Byekwaso is the first female spokesperson of the defense forces.
Brig General Richard Karemire has been assigned to the East African Community Secretariat as Defense Liaison Officer by the Head-of-State and Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“Please join me to welcome Hon Brig-Gen Flavia Byekwaso appointed the Defence Spokesperson following the end of my tour of duty. I have been assigned to EAC Secretariat as Defence Liaison Officer. I look forward to working on Integration as the solution for our strategic security,” outgoing spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire tweeted.
Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso has also been serving as an elected member of parliament representing the Uganda People’s Defence Forces in the 10th Parliament.
Brig Richard Karemire replaced Col. Paddy Ankunda as army spokesperson in 2017.
Col Ankunda had replaced Brig Felix Kulayigye who is currently an MP representing the UPDF.
In other changes, Museveni appointed Maj gen Don Nabaasa, the former SFC Commander as Contingent Commander in Somalia while Brig Felix Kulayigye has been assigned to Operation Wealth Creation (OWC)
