Viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing one of Africa’s top footballers, Moroccan attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech, make his Premier League debut on Monday 14 September 2020 when Chelsea take on Brighton & Hove Albion in a Round 1 clash.
SuperSport is your #HomeOfFootball and the ultimate destination for lovers of ‘The Beautiful Game’.
After years starring in the Eredivisie for Heerenveen, FC Twente and Ajax, the 27-year-old Dutch-born player will grace one of Europe’s major leagues, following a €40million transfer to the Blues which was confirmed way back in February.
It’s been a long wait for Chelsea fans to see Ziyech in action for their exciting, youthful team, and the Moroccan international’s former Ajax teammate Donny van de Beek believes he won’t let anyone down.
“I wish him everything and hope he will do very well [at Chelsea],” said the Dutch player. “It is a step he deserves in my opinion. He is a fantastic football player, so I am confident that he will do well.
“I think [Chelsea] is a very nice club with a lot of young players that can grow. I think Hakim will certainly be in [the right] place. Everyone, of course, had their opinion about that, but I think it’s a nice club for him.”
With his pace, skill and ability to both create and finish off goal-scoring opportunities, Ziyech is expected to help boost Chelsea’s goal output this season, with the Blues tipped to be one of the most exciting teams in attack after also signing German striker Timo Werner.
Former Blues star Ashley Cole is backing Ziyech and Werner to bring a completely new dimension to Frank Lampard’s team: “Although the new players that have come in are young, they’ve got experience of playing Champions League, they were stars of their team,” Cole said of Werner and Ziyech.
“They can give that leadership off the pitch and on it as well because we had a lot of leaders when I was a player here. They led by example not just by talking, but with their feet, which I feel is more important. People can talk. It is easy to talk, but when you are backing it up with quality performances, that’s what makes the difference.”
Ziyech’s first chance to impress will come on the evening of Monday 14 September when Chelsea head to the AmEx Stadium to face Brighton. The Moroccan featured against the Seagulls in a 1-0 friendly win in the last weekend of August and will be keen to help the Blues secure a repeat result and get their Premier League campaign off to a flying start.
