Kasese Municipality National resistance Movement NRM party electoral commission has declared Kabyanga Godfrey Kiime as flag bearer in the fourth coming general election following today’s party primaries that were held across Kasese Municipality.
Declaring the results yesterday evening at Virina Garden, the Kasese District NRM registrar Amon Mbusa announced Kabyanga Godfrey as winner after garnering 8,872 (65.9%) while his closest rival Mutungwanda Johnson polled 3,849 (28.8%) and Enock Madesi came in the third
position with 769 votes equivalent to 5.9% of the total vote cast.
Mbusa hailed voters across the Municipality for casting the vote peacefully urging people to support the declared candidate in the fourth coming general election.
Kabyanga Godfrey speaking during an interview shortly after the declaration hailed the voters for the support and urged those who were supporting his other colleagues to rally behind him in the general election saying the struggle has just started.
Kabyanga says he will not betray the party arguing that he will ensure the party flag flies high in the general election. However Johnson Mutungwanda who came second has not conceded with the election result claiming the election was marred by intimidation and the use of government forces to campaign for Godfrey Kabyanga, which he said was not lawful.
Mutungwanda has vowed to petition the election results.
Kabyanga Godfrey is expected to tussle it out with the forum for democratic change (FDC) party flag bearer Chance Kahindo in the 2021 general election.
