Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Presidential candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat has been arrested as he headed to Rubirizi for his campaigns. He was arrested by the Police at Nkombe, a few kilometres from Kyamuhunga on the Ishaka-Kasese highway.
Amuriat was intercepted at about 9:00 am and ordered into a Police vehicle before being driven to Mbarara.
According to Police spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi, Martial Tumusiime, Amuriat was arrested for knocking down a Police officer, the District Police Commander for Mbarara, John Rutagira while the latter was trying to intercept him.
“Amuriat has been arrested and taken back to Mbarara to answer charges of why he knocked the DPC and also why he didn’t follow the procedures while campaigning in Mbarara,” Tumusiime said.
The presidential candidate had allegedly defied the Police and used a motorcycle to go through the road he had been stopped from using.
On his campaign trail in greater Mbarara, Amuriat was supposed to address his supporters at Kakyeeka Stadium in Mbarara city after several rallies in Isingiro.
However, he was directed to move straight to Kakyeeka, although he reportedly insisted on going through the city centre.
