The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General Lawis David Rubongoya has said that he is not in bed with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the appointing authority President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Rubongo made this commenting making a bitter response on rumours making rounds on social media indicating that he is being sweettalked for a juicy job in government.
For a while, the youthful learned fellow has been appearing on speculative lists awaiting for appointments by the four decade ruling government.
The first list claimed that the road has been paved for Rubongoya to take the East African Community (EALA) opposition slot under National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket. If this goes well, The former Nganwa High School Head Prefect would replace Democratic Party’s Hon. Fred Mukasa Mpidde who was bitterly trolled in a hotly contested Nyendo Mukungwe division race by Hon. Mathias Mpuuga who is currently serving as the Leader of Opposition in the 11th Parliament.
The second allegation, also placed Rubongoya on the list of those nominated to become foreign envoys. Also featuring on the purported list as claimed by a weekly tabloid, is Democratic Party’s Hon. Norbert Mao, former National Resistance Movement National Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda Afande Matayo Kyaligonza among others.
However on responding to these allegations, Rubongo described them as jokes.
“The biggest joke of all time! The NRM system has survived all these years by sponsoring propaganda meant to discredit, derail, divide and eventually destroy those who oppose it. When they try to compromise you and you refuse, they resort to lies and blackmail.” Rubongoya commented via his official twitter handle.
