National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has applauded social media site Twitter for deleting accounts linked to President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.
Reacting to the news of the Twitter purge on pro-Museveni accounts, Bobi Wine said Museveni had hired people to coordinate attacks against the opposition.
“Museveni faced with so much pressure, hired a big group of people to run multiple social media accounts to promote his regime!” claimed the NUP leader.
“They engage in coordinated attacks against his opponents and brand them foreign agents while praising his corrupt, inept regime. On the eve of elections, Facebook detected and removed several such accounts, prompting Museveni to ban Facebook in Uganda to date.”
He saluted Twitter for the bold move which comes on the heels of a decision by Facebook to delete pro-Museveni accounts.
“On the eve of elections, Facebook detected and removed several such accounts, prompting Museveni to ban Facebook in Uganda to date,” noted Bobi Wine.
“Very glad to see that Twitter has taken a similar step and we hope the dictator will now not ban twitter as well.”
Bobi Wine further alleged that Museveni had established his rule on propaganda.
“Museveni’s regime has been built on lies and propaganda- any effort to expose and stop them is to be hailed,” he said.
“Like all despots, whatever schemes he uses to illegally impose himself on the people of Uganda will finally be exposed and will certainly fail.”
