The MTN-Bunyoro Kitara kingdom sponsored bicycle races took off in Kikuube district on Friday morning attracting thousands of spectators and participants.
The bicycle racing competition which was flagged off by Amaln Tumusiime the Resident District Commissioner and Peter Banura the district LCV chairperson for Kikuube district attracted over 70 participants.
Tumusiime said that the racing competition was one of the best-organized sports events in the kingdom and appreciated MTN for its support of the activities in the region.
“I am happy for the kingdom to have a partner such as MTN Uganda, they are a strong partner that has supported a lot of projects in different parts of our kingdom,” Tumusiime said.
Tumusiime said that as a district they will also ensure that they support the annual event which is being held in all the entire districts of the kingdom.
He said that the bicycle races are helping to identify and promote the talents of the people in the kingdom and appealed to the youths to participate.
“It helps to keep our people in good health because as they are riding they are exercising and we indeed appreciate MTN for thinking about the people by supporting such a good sports activity.
Peter Banura the district LCV chairperson also applauded the kingdom for always choosing good partners whose intentions are aimed at helping the kingdom in socioeconomic development areas such as health, talent identification, and cultural heritage.
“With the great partners that the kingdom has attracted we hope to achieve much in terms of health, sports and education, and I am happy that MTN is the partner to get the kingdom to its desired objectives in all the sectors,” Banura said.
The participants raced a distance of 20 kilometers and the winner in the first place was given UGX 500,000 the second runner-up UGX 400,000, the third UGX 300,000 while the other two each got a cash prize of UGX 100,000 by MTN.
The prize winners were Bonny Ategeka in the first place, George Kaganda in second place, Charles Obua in third place, Nelson Businge in the fourth position, and lastly John Boso Baguma in the fifth position.
MTN Uganda as the sole sponsor of the Bunyoro Kitara kingdom empaka ze gaali 2022 has been rewarding each of the top five winners in the races that are set to take place in all 13 counties of the kingdom ahead of the grand finale that will be held in Hoima City.
The first-ever bicycle race competition sponsored by MTN Uganda was recently successfully concluded in the Tooro Kingdom and the Ker Alur Kingdom. More such races launched in other cultural institutions namely; the Busoga Kingdom and Ker Kwaro Acholi.
