The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Beijing – China in conjunction with Shandong Foreign Office will convene the Uganda – Shandong Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Conference on the 8th November 2022.
The one (1) day conference which is co-organized by
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Kampala, the Chinese Embassy in Kampala Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) and other MDA’s aims to deepen bilateral trade and economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of both Uganda and China.
The Conference which is one of the activities to commemorate 60 years of the establishment of Diplomatic relations between Uganda and China will
be a hybrid event that will have physical and online participation.
The objectives of this Conference include;
i) Explore opportunities for cooperation in cotton production and textile value chain companies
ii) Build cooperation in production, processing, and marketing of Ugandan grains, dried tropical fruits, coffee, sesame, and industrial cassava for export to China and outside China
iii) Articulate Uganda’s tourism attractions and potential, understudy scenic sites development and process of creating internal tourism
iv) Study the petrochemical industry in Shandong and agree on cooperation in the development of the full value chain of the Petro-chemical industry in Uganda.
v) Identify companies for mining/mineral processing
vi) Explore opportunities for cooperation in agricultural products value addition processing
vii) Explore opportunities for cooperation in manufacturing sector particularly machine tool production
viii) Explore opportunities for cooperation in logistics, transport, and distribution companies
The Conference will;
i) Host an Investment Promotion Forum
ii) Mini Expo to showcase Ugandan products to show case Ugandan products including coffee, shear butter, sesame, peanuts, arts and crafts, tourism products etc.
iii) Facilitate meetings with Shandong Provincial Officials including the political leadership and officials from the Department of Commerce and Department of Agriculture.
iv) Conduct B2B meetings with potential investors
v) Undertake field visits to selected factories
Some of the participants expected to take part in this Conference include;
i)100 companies invited by the Foreign Affairs office in partnership with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
ii) The companies invited will be those involved in agricultural value addition, agricultural mechanization and irrigation, petro-chemical industry, tourism industry and manufacturing industry.
The expected output of this Conference include;
i) Uganda promoted as best Investment and Tourism Destination.
ii) Greater visibility of Ugandan products on the Chinese market
iii) Potential investors identified and linked with Uganda Investment Authority (UIA)
iv) Potential Chinese importers identified and linked with Ugandan exporters
v) Draft agreed minutes with potential investors and relevant Authorities.
The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda will share preferential policies and incentives extended to Chinese Investors in Uganda at the conference. The Embassy and MDA’s in Uganda will further share necessary information and guidance to assist Chinese Investors to invest in Uganda and/or partner with enterprises in Uganda for trade, investment and tourism.

Economy
Agriculture
Shandong ranks first among the provinces in the production of a variety of products, including cotton, wheat, sorghum, and maize. It is the largest agricultural exporter in China.
Mining and Petroleum
Shandong has precious metals such as gold and diamonds. It also has one of the biggest sapphire deposits in the world. Shandong has extensive petroleum deposits as well, especially in the Dongying area in the Yellow River delta, where the Shengli Oil Field is, which is China’s second largest oilfields. Shandong also produces bromine from underground wells and salt from sea water. Main chemical products in Shandong include high concentration fertilizer, caustic soda, radial tire, and soda ash. Shandong province has formed a complete oil industrial chain, from crude oil production, transportation, and oil refinery to petro-chemical products. Shandong province is also a main producer of pharmaceutical chemical materials.
Tourism
The Shandong Tourism Bureau is the body responsible for tourism development and management in Shandong Province. The province has over 510 developed scenic sites and various natural attractions.
Manufacturing
Shandong is the biggest industrial producer and one of the top manufacturing provinces in China. Shandong has also benefited from South Korean and Japanese investment due to its geographical proximity to those countries. The richest part of the province is the Shandong Peninsula, where the city of Qingdao is home to three of the most well-known brand names of China: Tsingtao Beer, Haier and Hisense.
Shandong has a leading position in several manufacturing segments, including agricultural machinery, engineering machinery, machine tools, petroleum equipment and woodworking tools. It’s also one of the main manufacturing bases of engineering machinery in China.
Currently, there are over 150 development zones in Shandong province, at provincial or national level. It consists of 12 state level economic and technological development zones, 2 bonded ports (Qingdao Port and Yantai Port), 2 comprehensive bonded zones (Jinan and Weifang), 3 export processing zones (Qingdao, Qingdao West Coast and Weihai), as well as 137 provincial level economic development zones.
