As it’s famously said that, ‘There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.’ Indeed the Explore Elgon tourism drive has been be a cocktail of both happiness, dance and unearthing the magical beauty of the Eastern part of Uganda.
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, cultural tourism is “movements of persons for essentially cultural motivations such as study tours, performing arts and cultural tours, travel to festivals and other cultural events, visits to sites and monuments, travel to study nature, folklore or art.
Explore Elgon happened at time when the region was carrying on a fleet Imbalu activities, that are aimed towards seeing teenagers transition from childhood to manhood.
This long awaited activity won a soft spot in the hearts of local tourists from Kampala as the exciting local beats of Kadodi, the dance move vibration could not leave them in the position.
A taste on the beautiful and highly creative Bumasaba culture, local brew and food stuff like Malewa excited the revelers
In the same spirit top Ugandan musician Sheebah Karungi, kickboxer Moses Golola and other celebrities also joined a team of 300 Ugandans from the central part of Uganda (Kampala) to run different activities for the domestic tourism campaign for the Elgon Region.
The appearance of these popular faces amplified vibes on each stopover and activity undertaken something that is likely not going to leave the hearts of the local tourists that took on the challenge to conquer facilities like Wanale Hill, Wanale Falls, Sipi Falls among others.
While crossing the magical Jinja bridge, the Uganda Tourism Board Chairman Hon. Daudi Migereko applauded the visitors for supporting the efforts geared towards supporting domestic tourism.
“This tour means that no one should remain at home during this festive season,” he told The Independent on the sidelines of the brief stop-over.
He said, Eastern Uganda, like many other parts of the country is gifted with different tourist attractions and that means citizens should pick interest in getting out of their comfort homes to visit and experience Uganda, their home.
“To us this is an important activity as we end the year of 2022 through which we hope to promote the sector by showcasing the beauty of the Elgon region. We shall organize more of these campaigns come next year in other regions of the country.” Said the State Minister for Tourism Hon. Martine Mugarra.
