The Inspectorate General of Government Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya has vowed to go bare knuckles with top Government officials involved in the mismanagement and theft of the Office of the Prime Minister relief items destined for Karamoja.
Kamya’s pledge follows the report that established that the Karamoja Affairs Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu was not alone in the heist but rather several other officials were also implicated.
Speaking at a presser on Monday, the IGG said her office is ready to battle with any minister or any official reflecting on the list of karamoja Iron sheet beneficiaries.
“I am not going to be intimidated or give chances to any official whoever powerful the person may be, I will make sure this time round corrupt officials are brought to books,” IGG Kamya said. “This impunity and tendency of mismanaging taxpayers money must stop. I am not going to hold back when these ministers think they are untouchable. We will summon them for a probe. Anyone that defaults and absconds our summons will be prosecuted,” she warned.
IGG Kamya added that she will use her powers to issue arrest warrants on any Minister that will act untouchable.
“As you are aware, my office has powers to summon anyone in Government. I will issue an arrest warrant for any big headed minister who will not voluntarily show up for investigations,” she said. “We are constrained by a backlog of cases to handle but we must in public interest go on to take up the iron sheets matter. We will do all possible to bring the culprits to book,” she vowed.
