In a significant move to bolster environmental conservation efforts in Ngora District, RSI has partnered with the Ngora District Local Government to support a district-wide tree-growing campaign.
The initiative, aimed at combating climate change and enhancing biodiversity, saw RSI deliver and facilitate the planting of 4,000 seedlings across various communities in the district.
Peter Nuwagaba, the Executive Director of RSI, spearheaded the delivery of the seedlings.
During the handover, Nuwagaba pledged that an additional 6,000 seedlings would be provided in the near future, with support from the National Forestry Authority (NFA).
This commitment underscores RSI’s dedication to supporting the district’s environmental initiatives and ensuring the long-term success of the campaign.
Margeret Awekoniwamungu, the District Environmental Officer, expressed her gratitude to RSI for their contribution to the district’s efforts.
She emphasized that the seedlings would be distributed to households and schools, ensuring that the benefits of this initiative reach a wide cross-section of the community.
Awekoniwamungu also highlighted the importance of community involvement in maintaining and nurturing the seedlings to ensure they grow into mature trees that contribute to the district’s environmental goals.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ekaramu Stephen the chairperson of the Ngora Beekeepers Association from Tididiek village in Ngora Subcounty, shared the positive impact this initiative would have on local livelihoods.
He noted that the trees would not only play a crucial role in climate change mitigation but also support the beekeeping industry by providing shelter for beehives and a reliable source of nectar for the bees.
This, in turn, is expected to boost the income-generating activities of the association’s members, further enhancing the economic resilience of the community.
The partnership between RSI and the Ngora District Local Government is a significant step forward in promoting environmental sustainability and community development in the region.
With the continued support from RSI and other stakeholders, Ngora District is poised to make meaningful progress in its efforts to combat climate change and improve the livelihoods of its residents.
The chairperson LCV, Mr. Odong Michael, welcomed the support and acknowledged that this and other contributions from partners like Roofings are steps towards the district’s goal of growing over 150,000 trees in four years.
