President Paul Kagame, the Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force, has today passed out hundreds of cadet officers.
This event went down at the Rwanda Military Academy – Gako where he presided over the Officer Cadets Commissioning Ceremony that saw high profile government officials in presence.
President Kagame toured RMA-Gako’s new facilities including a multipurpose hall, medical lab, and smart classroom.
He vowed to uphold peace and stability in the region citing that its a mistake for some people to think that his soldiers are there to provoke and wars.
“There are some who believe that the role of an army is to wage wars. That is a mistake. The armed forces of our country do not exist to create or provoke wars.” Kagame said.
Kagame added that the history of our country is one where people were killed by fellow citizens, as a result of bad politics, both internally and externally.
“Children, the elderly, young men and women were asked to choose the weapon of their death. When a nation has reached this level of tragedy, it would be unthinkable for us to repeat this history.” He said.
Kagame added that the training of our armed forces, and the knowledge of our past, cannot allow for our tragic history to ever repeat itself in this country.
“That is your responsibility as the armed forces of this country: yours, the elders you are joining today and anyone who will come after you. And you must pursue it with dedication and integrity.” President Kagame
