Church of Uganda Completes Payment Of Church House Loan

Equity Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Church of Uganda and other religious organizations for mutual benefit.

During the Uganda Martyrs Day ceremonies in Namugongo on Monday, Equity Bank Executive Director Elizabeth Mwerinde Kasedde thanked the Church for its support and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to collaboration at all levels.

At the event, Church of Uganda Archbishop Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu handed a symbolic cheque to symbolize the return of Equity Bank’s loan for the construction of the Janani Luwum Church House.

Archbishop Kaziimba praised Equity Bank’s strong partnership and encouraged Christians to learn more about its offers.

“I am delighted to announce that the Church House is now fully owned by the Church of Uganda. Thank you, Equity Bank, for your unwavering support,” stated Archbishop Kaziimba.

Apart from the mortgage, Equity Bank also sponsored the first-ever national Uganda Martyrs Choir competition and gave UGX 30 million for the Martyrs Day celebrations.

With the Church’s 30% contribution, the bank’s assistance paid for 70% of the Janani Luwum Church House’s building expenditures.

Equity Bank provided the Church with a USD 17 million loan for the project, which started up and ran smoothly in 2015.

“This project was a dream the Church had cherished for nearly 50 years. I am thrilled that Equity Bank took the bold step to help the Church realize this dream,” said Kasedde.

To improve their adherents’ lives, Kasedde also invited other dioceses to implement Equity Bank’s development model.

She stressed the bank’s commitment to helping individual Christians achieve their objectives by providing financial services that empower communities economically and socially.

“If we can realize a dream of $17 million (UGX 65 billion) together, why can’t we help our followers and members in our parishes also achieve their dreams? Equity Bank is here to help the Church bring dignity to its followers by extending financial services that economically and socially empower communities,” explained Kasedde.

The Janani Luwum Church House project, initially planned in 1966, was only realized through the partnership with Equity Bank in 2015, significantly contributing to the Church’s mission and clergy pensions.
