On 12th June 2024, the Honorable John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs/Regional Cooperation, held a cordial meeting with His Excellency Maj. Gen. Paul Kisesa, the High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to Uganda, at the Ministry Headquarters in Kampala.

The meeting served as a follow-up to the recently concluded Second Uganda-Tanzania Business Forum held in Dar-Es-Salaam in May 2024.

During the discussions, Hon. Mulimba emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration between the Tanzanian High Commission and the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hon. Mulimba reiterated Uganda’s request made during the JPC and Business Forum for the consideration of the manufacture and export of a consignment of electric Kiira KV buses to the Tanzanian market and urged for the expeditious advancement of this initiative.

He also highlighted the necessity of joint border meetings to address cross-cutting issues directly with the people, thereby enhancing trade and security between the two nations.

Hon. Mulimba informed the High Commissioner of Uganda’s efforts to improve trade relations by rehabilitating the MV Pemba and MV Kaawa on Lake Victoria, facilitating the transportation of goods and services.

He expressed appreciation to the Government of Tanzania for constructing a vessel with a 400-tonne cargo capacity destined for Port Bell.

In this regard, he invited H.E. Maj. Gen. Kisesa to join him in visiting Port Bell to ensure its readiness to receive the new vessel.

H.E. Maj. Gen. Kisesa welcomed the updates provided by Hon. Mulimba and emphasized the importance of timely and routine engagements between the High Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He proposed scheduling the joint border meetings for November 2024.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda remains committed to fostering strong bilateral relations with the United Republic of Tanzania and looks forward to continued collaboration in pursuit of shared goals and objectives.
