This morning, several youths were arrested as they attempted to march to the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda.
The demonstrators were protesting against ongoing corruption and the embezzlement of public funds, which they claim has resulted in poor service delivery.
The police swiftly intervened, leading to numerous arrests.
Among those detained was Melvin Nasasira, who updated his X account with the message: “They had confiscated our phones but they’ve now briefly given them back and asked us to switch them off. We’re still at CPS. My lawyer @Kawukitadeo tells me we’ll be arraigned in court today.”
Karungi Hamza, arrested along Parliamentary Avenue, stated, “It is okay to arrest me for asking for accountability from Anita Among.”
Other individuals arrested include Bernard Olupot (aka Beewol), Ntume, Okanya, Lutaaya, Kivumbi, Shaka, Angumya, Tabamubi, Mbinga, Byakutaganza, Karungi, Tayebwa, Derrick, Siperia, Grace, Kirya, Marvin Kawuma, Faiza, Thomas, Namutyaba, Sserunkuma, Wikiriza, Nipsey, Nuwagaba, Praise, Kennedy, Jeremiah, Matovu, Nuwenuwe, Yiga, Wambi, Wamala, Shabilzs, Mukwaya, Ssempija, Melanin, and many others yet to be identified.
It is noteworthy that numerous lawyers have gathered at Central Police Station and other stations in Kampala to provide legal services to the arrested protesters.
Additionally, a website has been launched to profile all individuals arrested during the #MarchToParliament protest.
