By the time the judges narrowed the contestants from 26 to seven, Natasha Nyonyozi had proven herself worthy of the Miss Uganda 2024/2025 crown.
The glamorous grand finale took place at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel gardens on Saturday evening.
The 23-year-old accountant remained calm and composed during the tense question-and-answer session, which often rattles even the most confident contestants.
Earlier in the evening, she had been awarded the Miss Photogenic special award, affirming her beauty. Now, it was time to test her intellect.
Top Contestants and Their Achievements
Nyonyozi was followed by Suraya Umeimah, a 25-year-old cadet pilot, and Joan Nabatanzi, 25, from Butambala, who took the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.
The contest, which began in May with countrywide searches, has been highly anticipated, especially as it runs as a reality TV show.
The talent and top model nights leading up to the grand finale showcased impressive performances, hinting that the final event would be spectacular.
The Grand Finale Event
After singer Jackie Chandiru delivered a flawless rendition of the national anthem, the 26 contestants kicked off their performances around 9:00 PM with a well-choreographed dance in silver bodycon outfits that energized the audience.
The night’s emcees, Andrew Kyamagero and socialite Anita Fabiola, then introduced each contestant.
Modelling Sessions and Designer Showcases
During their modelling sessions, the contestants dazzled the runway in Jo IGsalca’s African print full-body gowns and Kai Divo’s collection in black, yellow, and red.
They also showcased designs from Mans Stitches and Joan Jade.
Despite the controversy surrounding the boot camp, which led to the elimination of two contestants just days before the finale over accusations of favouritism, the remaining girls knew this was their last chance to impress the judges.
Question-and-Answer Session
Most of the questions revolved around family tradition influences, girl-child empowerment, and menstrual challenges.
When Nyonyozi was asked how she would use her platform to advocate for a cause, she passionately spoke about fighting the stigma against those diagnosed with autism.
“My cause is advocacy for children, especially those with autism. I chose this because my little brother was diagnosed with autism at the age of four, and it is heartbreaking to see people discriminate against him. I will continue promoting this cause through my social media platforms as I have already done before,” she said.
Special Awards and Performances
This year’s pageant also featured the Miss Multimedia category for the second time, which was won by Esther Nalumanzi Kironde.
The judges included Miss Uganda/Miss World Africa 2018 Quiin Abenakyo, Miss Uganda 2019 Oliver Nakakande, transformational coach Purity Wako, and Mr. Africa International 2015 Keith Karuhuura.
The night also featured musical performances from reggae star Maddox Ssematimba, Ykee Benda, Jackie Chandiru, and D’Maestroz Band.
