A former Kyambogo senior lecturer accused of defiling a 16-year-old visually impaired girl has been committed to the High Court for trial.
Dr Eron Lawrence was committed to the High Court by Nakawa Chief Magistrate Christine Nantege after Senior State Attorney Eunice Mbaine informed the court that the investigations were complete.
“Having heard the summary of the case and indictment, the accused is committed to the High Court for trial,” Nantege said.
Eron is facing charges of aggravated defilement contrary to Uganda’s penal code Act Cap 128. Upon conviction, the penalty is death.
The prosecution alleges that on October 12 last year between Kyambogo University and Namugongo Nsawo village, Wakiso district, the accused person performed a sexual act with a girl aged 16 years living with a disability when he was HIV positive and a person in authority over her.
Eron was also a dean of the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, and an administrator of the ‘All We See Is Possibility’ project supported by the Netherlands.
The incident is said to have happened in October last year, when the victim, together with the accused, returned from a conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
