A 16-year-old shocked medics at Busolwe Hospital when she gave birth to quadruplets normally.
The mother (name withheld because she is a minor) gave birth on Sunday night before she was transferred to Mbale Hospital for further management.
The jolly mother, who is the fourth born in a family of 10, said that she lives with her family in Butaleja town council.
“My elder brother also had triplets and there are so many pairs of twins in my family,” she said.
The young mother said when she experienced labour pains, she first went to a nearby clinic, whose staff failed to handle her condition and quickly referred her to Busolwe Hospital.
The medics at the children’s ward at Mbale Hospital were by yesterday taking care and monitoring all four babies.
“During antenatal, they used to tell me I was carrying twins, but to my surprise, when the time reached for delivery, they were four,” she said.
The mother added that God has always been on her side because she could not believe carrying four babies and giving birth normally.
Without revealing the name of the school, she revealed that when she got pregnant, she was in Senior Two.
She was reportedly impregnated by a Primary Seven dropout.
“I am willing to go back to school.
The only challenge I have is that I come from a humble family, yet the father of the children is also not financially stable,” she said.
The incharge of the children’s ward at Mbale Hospital, Dr Julian Abeso, said the babies are in stable condition.
The doctor, however, expressed fear that if sent home, the mother might not have enough breast milk to feed all the babies.
“It is good for her health that she does not get pregnant soon because she needs her bones to develop more,” Abeso advised.
