In line with the growing connectivity across Africa, Uganda Airlines has expanded its flight offerings by introducing a new route to Abuja, Nigeria.
This addition brings the airline’s total destinations to over 20, following the launch of its services to Lagos, the country’s commercial center, just one year ago.
On September 12, Uganda Airlines celebrated the inaugural flight to Abuja, which took off from Entebbe at 4 PM and arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 6:15 PM the same day.
The airline will operate these flights using its flagship Airbus A330-800neo aircraft, with services scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays, linking Abuja with the existing route to Lagos.
During the launch event, Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamutaraki expressed excitement about the new service, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce our flights to Abuja, Nigeria, marking our second destination in the country after Lagos. It’s a combined service, utilizing Airbus for both routes, with the flight number UR900. We take immense pride in this accomplishment and in fulfilling our commitment to both Uganda and Nigeria.”
Bamutaraki further emphasized that Abuja is the 14th destination in Uganda Airlines’ network and highlighted the airline’s dedication to enhancing travel across Africa.
“The launch of this route demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing reliable and affordable air services that promote business, tourism, and leisure travel,” she stated.
The new Abuja service significantly addresses the connectivity gap between Nigeria’s administrative capital and East Africa.
“This route enables travelers from Nigeria’s central, northern, and northeastern regions to conveniently connect with our flights to destinations such as Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, Mogadishu, Mumbai, and Dubai,” Bamutaraki added.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including the state minister for Transport, Fred Byamukama, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Uganda, Fehintola Adebowale Oyeyemi, and the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Fred Bamwesigye.
