Popular cartoonist Dr. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, has called upon Ugandans to uphold humility in everything they do.
This comment was in a tweet when he revealed to have rammed into Eric Sakwa, the former Jinja Resident District Commissioner (RDC), who was demoted over allegations of abuse of office.
Sakwa, is the man who had once infamously declared Dr. Besigye an unwelcome visitor in Jinja.
Ssentongo couldn’t help but chuckle as he recalled Sakwa’s scathing remarks, labeling Besigye a “desert locust.” The irony wasn’t lost on him; Sakwa, once so full of vitriol, now looked deflated, like a “de-winged grasshopper” struggling to find its place.
As Ssentongo watched, Sakwa seemed to blend into the crowd, his once-boisterous demeanor now subdued. It was as if life had humbled him, teaching him a valuable lesson in humility.
Ssentongo couldn’t resist sharing his thoughts on social media, poking fun at Sakwa’s diminished stature. “He can even fit in a matchbox,” he joked, appending “Avaako n’evvu!” – a colloquialism that roughly translates to “life has its ways of teaching us.”.
The tweet was Ssentongo’s tongue-in-cheek commentary on the fleeting nature of power and influence. It served as a reminder that, no matter how loudly we proclaim our importance, life has a way of bringing us back down to earth.
In reaction to Spire’s tweet, Dr. Kiiza Besigye said that the lesson from Jimmy Spire Ssentongo: ” Always be humble and fair. Power, authority, capability, looks/demeanor etc, are very temporary!Worse still, if the power and authority is only delegated to you- be extra humble! I’ve no ill-feelings towards Ndugu Sakwa.’
