Reverend Dominic Alinga, facing charges for the alleged murder of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) employee John Bosco Ngorok, has been remanded to Kigo Prison once again.
The decision followed the failure of the state prosecutor to attend a scheduled hearing at the Entebbe Magistrate’s Court, where an update on the ongoing police investigation was expected.
In the absence of the prosecutor, Senior Magistrate Grade One, Mr. Edgar Tibayeita Tusiime, announced that the case would be postponed, setting the next mention date for November 18.
The magistrate noted that the court had expected the prosecutor’s appearance to shed light on the progress of the investigation related to the murder, allegedly committed on August 3, 2024.
The charges against Reverend Alinga are serious and multifaceted. He stands accused of murdering Ngorok with “malice aforethought,” which, according to the prosecution, involved a fatal stabbing that took place on August 3 in Kitooro, Wakiso District.
Under sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act, the crime qualifies as murder due to its alleged premeditated nature.
Additionally, Reverend Alinga faces a second charge of attempted murder, this time involving a boda boda operator named Abigaba Mugisha.
According to court documents, Mugisha was on his motorcycle when Reverend Alinga allegedly struck him as he was attempting to transport the severely injured Ngorok to Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital in a bid to save his life.
The attempted murder charge is covered under section 187, cap 128, of the Penal Code Act.
The absence of the prosecutor in this high-profile case has led to questions about the pace of justice and concerns from both the defence and the public regarding delays in the legal process.
In the meantime, Reverend Alinga remains in custody as law enforcement and legal teams work to finalize the investigation.
With the next court mention set for mid-November, both the prosecution and defence are expected to be better prepared to proceed with the case, ensuring all parties are fully informed of the case’s developments.
As the case progresses, it has continued to draw significant public attention due to the serious allegations involving a clergyman and the tragic death of a government employee.
