Equity Bank Uganda Ltd has excelled at the recently held eighth edition of the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) 2024 Excellence Awards, held at Protea Kampala on Friday 29th November, 2024.
Equity Bank Uganda Ltd received the Best Crisis Communication Management award for the Project Hope Campaign. The bank was also a finalist and runners up in three other campaigns: the Internal Communication Campaign, the CSR/ESG Campaign, and the Social Media/Digital Communication Campaign of the Year.
Present at the awards ceremony was Mr. Nathan Atuhaire (Marketing Supervisor – Digital & Channels) and Barbara Among (Communications Manager) who both appreciated the judges and PRAU for the award.
PRAU holds the competitive industry awards to recognise and reward excellence in public relations practice.
According to the Uganda Communications Commission, “The PRAU Excellence Awards are a shining example of industry collaboration and a celebration of PR excellence. We proudly support the elevation of this vital field, and together, we’re building a brighter future for public relations.”
The guest of honour on the night, Hon. Shartsi Musherure, the Mawogola North Member of Parliament, announced her commitment to spearheading the Public Relations Practitioners’ Bill in Parliament as a private member’s bill: “The bill is a good instrument for PR professionals, communicators, the entire communications industry, and Uganda at large. It will streamline PR practice, ensure ethical standards, and elevate the profession to the same level as law, medicine, and accounting.”
The Public Relations Practitioners’ Bill seeks to regulate the PRAU sector, guaranteeing the proper training, registration, and recognition of public relations practitioners.
PRAU President Tina Wamala: “Innovation is the spark that ignites creativity and the fuel that drives progress. Tonight, we honour those who have pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in public relations. Innovation drives our industry, and this bill will be a catalyst for greater progress. PR needs to transition from a support role to a strategic one”.
