NRM leaders from the Bugisu region have levied serious allegations against Capt. Mike Mukula, the party’s Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, claiming he neglects the region’s leaders and constituents after elections.
During a recent extended District Executive Committee (DEC) meeting at Mbale SS, chaired by NRM Director of Communications, Mr. Emmanuel Dombo, local leaders expressed their frustrations over Mukula’s sporadic engagement with the region.
Mr. Walimbwa Charles Peke, the NRM chairman for Manafwa District, articulated the sentiments of many in attendance, stating that Mukula only appears in the region during election times. “Our chairman in charge of the Eastern Region, Mike Mukula, only comes here for votes. After elections, he disappears,” Walimbwa lamented. He emphasized the need for Mukula to be more consistent in his engagements with party members and the community.
As the next elections approach, Walimbwa highlighted the importance of organizing district conferences to foster better communication and connection with the electorate. “He will return, but as party leaders, we need to organize district conferences and engage with our people,” he said.

The remarks are emblematic of growing dissatisfaction among local NRM leaders who feel sidelined and underrepresented in the party’s decision-making processes. The situation underscores the ongoing challenges within the NRM party as it navigates internal dynamics ahead of upcoming elections.
The Bugisu leaders’ call for increased accountability and engagement reflects a crucial need for party unity and strategy as they face an evolving political landscape. The NRM’s leadership, including Capt. Mukula, will need to address these grievances to maintain support in the region.
