Former Daily Monitor security reporter Risdel Kasasira has been killed in a car accident on Masaka Road.
The incident occurred on Friday at around 1 pm at Kalagala Village along Lyantonde-Kashagama Road.
According to police, Kasasira’s wife, Charlotte Nshimire, was driving the family’s Toyota Fielder when she lost control of the vehicle, which plunged into a swamp.
Kasasira, 45, died on the spot, while his wife and their two children, Aretha Ntone, 5, and Elerio Nowangye Elerio, 3, were taken to Lyantonde Hospital for treatment.
ASP Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, confirmed that the vehicle was speeding before the accident. “The vehicle was submerged in the swamp after the crash,” Kasirye said.
Kasasira was a respected journalist who reported on security issues for Daily Monitor for several years. He covered high-profile stories, including the war against Al-Shabaab terrorists in Somalia and UPDF incursions into DR Congo.
Kasasira was known for his calm and quiet demeanor, and his work was highly regarded in the journalism community. He was part of a team that broke a major story about the so-called Muhoozi Project, which alleged a plot to eliminate top officials in security and government.
The story led to Daily Monitor being closed for two weeks as security searched for evidence related to the allegations.
Colleagues and friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to Kasasira, remembering him as a dedicated and fearless journalist.
Rest in Peace Risdel
