The family of the late Muhammad Ssegirinya has officially endorsed Alex Lusswa Luwemba as his political successor for the vacant Kawempe North parliamentary seat.
Luwemba, who served as Ssegirinya’s Personal Assistant, is seen as a fitting candidate to carry on the late MP’s legacy.
Justine Ssanyu Nakajumba, Ssegirinya’s mother, expressed her confidence in Luwemba’s ability to fulfill her son’s unfinished dreams for the constituents. “We believe the people of Kawempe North will not regret supporting him,” she stated.
However, the family’s endorsement is not without competition. Twayira Akandiida, one of Ssegirinya’s widows, has also announced her candidacy, emphasizing her close relationship with her husband during his tenure and her capability to lead the community. “I believe I have the skills and knowledge to serve the people of Kawempe North,” she asserted.
At Ssegirinya’s burial on Sunday, the National Unity Platform, his political party, confirmed that they would adhere to their internal procedures to select a candidate for the upcoming by-election.
