Uganda Prisons Service and the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) have launched a certificate course on institutional leadership for the third intake of the Prisons Intermediate Staff and Command Course at the Prisons Academy and Training School (PATS) in Luzira.
The course, designed to equip prison officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage and lead within the challenging environment of a correctional institution, was officially launched in the presence of PATS administration, course tutors, and course participants.
Representing the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Hillary Bisanga, Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons (Director Human Resource Management), emphasized the importance of this training program in developing effective and ethical leaders within the service.
Introduced in 2022, this course aims to enhance leadership skills within the prison service. It builds upon a long-standing partnership between UPS and UMI, where the latter has been providing administrative courses to senior prison officers.
Dr. Mulindwa S. Kasozi, Director of Programs and Student Affairs (DPSA) at UMI, represented the Director General of UMI. He was accompanied by Dr. Rose Kwatampora, Head of Projects and Consultancy Department, and Dr. John Paul Settumba, the Course Coordinator.
