Verma & Partners, a leading law firm in Uganda, celebrated its 20th anniversary with a heartfelt event attended by distinguished guests, including the Attorney General, HE the Indian High Commissioner to Uganda, Director of Public Prosecutions Justice Jane Frances Abodo alongside members of the diplomatic corps and legal fraternity.
In her opening remarks, the firm’s founder Verma Deepa reflected on two decades of service and growth, acknowledging the journey as one of dedication, resilience, and support from countless individuals.
She honoured the memory of four pivotal figures in her life—her late parents, maternal uncle, and a close family friend—whose influence shaped her path to founding the practice. A minute of silence was observed in their honour.
A Journey Rooted in Mentorship and Support
The celebration traced the firm’s beginnings in 2004, starting as “Verma Jivram & Associates” and later evolving into “Verma & Partners.”
The founder credited Dr. Alan Shonubi, her mentor and former boss, for providing critical early guidance. She also thanked her husband, Mr. Jatin Jivram, for his unwavering encouragement and support, including providing the firm’s first rent-free office space.
“The early years were challenging,” she shared, citing the difficulties of managing a young family and a demanding practice. She expressed gratitude to colleagues in the legal fraternity who stepped in during those trying times.
Transformative Growth
The firm underwent significant transformations in 2010, moving to its current location on Plot 88 Luthuli Avenue, Bugolobi.
Key contributors to this growth included Mr. Raymond Ndyagambaki, who rose through the ranks to become a partner, and senior administrator Bissy Mirembe, whose contributions were instrumental in the firm’s rebranding and expansion.
“With Raymond’s calm brilliance and Bissy’s expertise, we diversified our client base and established ourselves as a leading firm in Uganda,” she noted.
Gratitude to Clients and Community
Special recognition was given to the firm’s staff and clients, whose loyalty and trust have been the cornerstone of its success. “Without you, none of this would be possible,” she said, prompting applause from the audience.
Honouring Supporters and Family
In a heartfelt conclusion, the founder expressed gratitude to friends, family, and supporters, including her brother Sharan Verma and long-time friend Suleiman Al-Namani, who travelled from Oman for the occasion.
Looking Ahead
As Verma & Partners celebrates its 20th anniversary, the firm remains committed to excellence in legal practice, innovation, and community impact.
The evening ended with a resounding performance by Mike Ouma and the band, a note of gratitude and a vision for continued success.
