The National Unity Platform (NUP) National Executive Committee has announced the appointment of Butambala County MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi as the new Deputy President for the Central Region.
Kivumbi replaces Mathias Mpuuga, who has reportedly left the party following his recent suspension.
During a press conference, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya expressed the party’s dissatisfaction with the regime’s Electoral Commission, which he accused of strategically reducing electoral areas in regions perceived to be unsupportive of the government.
Rubongoya also unveiled a series of new appointments to fill several vacant positions within the party:
- Vice Chairperson of the National Consultative Forum: Benjamin Katana takes over from the late Maama Jolly Mugisha.
- Deputy Secretary for Youth in the Western Region: Bwambale Geoffrey replaces Aguuda Moses.
- Secretary for the Elderly: Rev. Dr. Benon Byamugisha steps in for the late Mzee Byarugaba William.
- Secretary for Policy: Harriet Ageno takes over from the deceased Simon Toolit.
- Secretary for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): Mr. Julius Maganda fills the role formerly held by Isabirye.
- Deputy President for Western Uganda: Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba replaces the late Maama Jolly Mugisha.
- Deputy President for Buganda: Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi assumes the role, succeeding Hon. Mathias Mpuuga.
The newly appointed officials will serve in acting capacities until the NUP delegates conference scheduled for June this year.
