NRM applauded for infrastructure development

Government has been commended for development of the country’s infrastructure with Members of Parliament citing the  construction of the road network.

Kasambya County Representative, Hon. David Kabanda said that Mubende District which will host the 2025 NRM Day celebrations, has benefited from the upgrade of roads.


“Government recently signed a contract with Tecnovia company to tarmac a road from Lusalira-Kasambya-Nkonge to Ssembabule where Kabamba is, and we are very grateful for that as the people of Mubende,” Kabanda said.

Hon. Sarah Opendi (NRM, Tororo District Woman Representative) said that government ought to capitalise on the railway transport services, so as to complement the increasing kilometres of paved roads in the country.


“I want to thank the President for commissioning the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway in Tororo District. The construction is supposed to be done by Yapi Merkezi Construction Company, but we need clear right of way so that there are no hurdles to impede this long awaited project,” Opendi said.

Hon. Geofrey Feta (NRM, Ayivu Division East) said the supervision of works on infrastructure projects should be prioritised, so as to improve the quality of output.

The MPs made the remarks while responding to a statement on the on celebrations to mark the 39th NRM/A Victory Anniversary.

Kampala State Minister, Hon. Kabuye 

The State Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Kabuye Kyofa who presented the statement said that Uganda has witnessed socio-economic transformation indicators since 1986.


“The anniversary celebrations are an opportunity to remind our younger generations of the sacrifices made by Ugandans to cause change that ushered in the current peace and socio-economic transformation that is prevailing,” the minister said.

He added that government measures to promote economic diversification have enabled the economy to grow from US$1.5 billion in 1986 to US$55 billion by the forex exchange method, and US$180.29 billion by the Public-Private Partnership method.


“And with the roll out of many poverty alleviation initiatives in the country, many of our people in the rural setting will definitely join the monetary economy and thus ensure the dividends of growth are shared by all,” Kyofa added.

Lamwo District Woman MP, Hon. Nancy Acora called on government to support the Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) which she said can complement the impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) programme.

The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi called on the members of the National Resistance Movement to refer to the 10-point programme among others sought to eliminate of corruption adding that the vice has affected the economy.


“We lose over Shs10 trillion to corruption every year under the NRM government that promised to eliminate corruption. I hope you score yourselves and see how you are performing today,” Ssenyonyi said.
