A tragic road accident early this morning claimed the life of an American tourist and left three others injured when a vehicle lost control and rolled off a sharp corner.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:00 am in Kakureiju Village.
The ill-fated vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number UAM 271U, was being driven by 33-year-old Alpha Dadaire, a resident of Wakiso District.
It was reported that the vehicle failed to brake while navigating a steep slope and sharp corner, ultimately overturning multiple times before landing in Kyeshero Bridge.
The accident claimed the life of 40-year-old Shuldman Harrison Evan, a resident of New York, USA.
Three others sustained injuries, including two American tourists and the vehicle’s driver. The injured victims have been identified as:
- Zachary Avayou, 39, a resident of Pennsylvania, USA
- Jeremy Frederick Wright, 25, a resident of California, USA
- Alpha Dadaire, the 33-year-old driver from Wakiso District
Emergency services rushed the injured to Bwindi Hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was also conveyed to the same hospital for further arrangements.
The vehicle involved in the accident has been towed and is currently parked at Kihihi Police Station. Authorities are conducting further inspections and inquiries to determine the exact cause of the crash.
In a statement, SP Kananura Michael from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety emphasized the ongoing investigations and urged road users to exercise caution, particularly in areas with challenging terrain such as Kakureiju Village.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and road safety, especially in areas prone to steep slopes and sharp turns.
