The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NGLRB) of Uganda has intensified its efforts to ensure a fair and transparent gaming sector by targeting illegal gambling operations across the country.
In its latest enforcement action, the NGLRB enforcement team, in collaboration with the Uganda Police, conducted a surprise operation in parts of Western Uganda.
Over 157 illegal gaming machines, including unlicensed slot machines and gaming fish tables, were confiscated during the raid.
Among the notable incidents, Rajab Mukwaya, an unlawful operator in Masaka City, was detained for possessing illegal gaming equipment.
According to the NGLRB, Mukwaya lacked the proper licensing required to operate these machines. He will face charges in the Makindye Standard and Utilities Court.
“The enforcement is a crucial pillar in our efforts to establish a fair and transparent gaming industry,” the NGLRB stated.
“We strongly advise operators to desist from running gaming activities without obtaining the necessary licenses from the Board.”
This recent operation builds on earlier successes. Mid-last year, the NGLRB carried out a significant enforcement exercise in Kampala, where authorities confiscated 198 illegal slot machines and 12 boxes of gaming machine spare parts.
The Board emphasized its continued commitment to combating unlawful gambling operations and reminded operators of the importance of compliance with regulatory requirements.
