The Deputy Inspector General of Government, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, has called upon Anglican women to embrace submission, humility, and respect for their husbands as key virtues in sustaining a stable and successful marriage.
Speaking at the Annual Women’s Convention of the Diocese of Kampala, held at St. Luke’s Church of Uganda in Ntinda, Nakawa Division, Okiria reminded Christian women that true marital harmony comes from honoring their spouses and balancing their careers with their responsibilities at home.
“Marriage is a journey of selflessness, perseverance, and unity,” Okiria stated. “As wives, you must understand that you and your husband come from different backgrounds. It takes patience, tolerance, and daily effort to build a strong foundation.”
She emphasized the biblical principle of submission, urging women to recognize their husbands as the head of the household.
“No matter your status or achievements, your role as a wife is to submit. Be humble and work on your character daily to create a peaceful home,” she advised.
Referencing the convention’s theme, Imitating God’s Goodness by Doing Good (Galatians 6:9), Okiria encouraged women to cultivate a lifestyle that reflects God’s principles, demonstrating obedience, kindness, and devotion in their marriages.
Retired Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese, Dr. Hannington Mutebi, reinforced the call for women to embrace holiness and godliness in their daily lives.
Similarly, guest speaker Can. Dr. Ruth Senyonyi urged women to cherish their marriages, guard them with unwavering dedication, and remain steadfast in their roles as supportive and dependable wives.
Senyonyi also advised women to extend patience and love not only to their husbands but also to their children.
She cautioned against harsh parenting, stressing that adolescents require guidance, protection, and understanding even when they make mistakes.
Ruth Senyonyi, the wife of Rev. Dr. John Senyonyi, further encouraged women to be trustworthy and to place their faith in divine providence, trusting in God’s unwavering faithfulness.
Entrepreneur Donnah Masolo, another speaker at the convention, shifted the focus to parenting, highlighting the importance of equipping children with vocational skills to enhance their future opportunities.
The convention served as a powerful reminder of the virtues of submission, patience, and unwavering commitment to marital and family responsibilities—values that ensure harmony and divine blessings in the home.
