The Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development has confirmed the arrest of several officers attached to the Accountant General’s Office (AGO) as part of an ongoing investigation into financial operations at the Treasury.
In a statement released on February 4, 2025, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, Ramathan Ggoobi, assured the public that the Ministry is fully cooperating with the authorities to ensure a thorough probe.
The officers in question were summoned and detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to facilitate the conclusion of investigations.
The nature of the allegations against the arrested officers has not yet been disclosed, but the development has raised concerns about financial integrity within the Ministry.
The AGO plays a crucial role in managing government finances, overseeing transactions, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
Despite the arrests, the Ministry has reassured the public and all government institutions that its operations, including those under the AGO, continue to function normally.
“We wish to assure everyone concerned that all our services, including those provided by the AGO, are operating normally,” the statement read.
The Ministry has pledged full support to the investigating authorities and urged all concerned officers to cooperate fully. The government is expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
This incident comes at a time when Uganda is intensifying its fight against corruption and financial misconduct in public institutions.
The arrest of key Treasury officials signals a firm stance on accountability and transparency in government financial management.
More information will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
