Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer, has pledged to be an unyielding voice for Kawempe North, following his endorsement for the upcoming by-election.
Nalukoola, addressing supporters after receiving the NUP ticket, vowed to stand firm against President Museveni’s government, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to representing the interests of the people of Kawempe North and Ugandans facing political and economic struggles nationwide.
“Kawempe North is getting a voice that will never be silenced. I will stand firm for the people of Kawempe North and the people of Uganda,” Nalukoola declared.
A lawyer by profession, Nalukoola called for unity among his supporters, stressing that collective strength would be key to their success in the by-election. He also paid tribute to the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, whose 2021 victory established the constituency as a key opposition stronghold.
“This is a trial because, as a unified force, we must ensure that NUP retains this seat,” Nalukoola said.
Nalukoola’s endorsement followed a competitive internal race, where he overcame nine other aspirants. The seat became vacant after the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9. The by-election is scheduled for March 13, with NUP expected to maintain its hold on the constituency.
