The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Uganda Law Society President Isaac Ssemakadde.
This comes after Ssemakadde failed to appear in court to answer charges of indecently insulting Director of Public Prosecutions, Justice Jane Frances Abodo.
Despite being summoned twice, Ssemakadde’s lawyers cited his illness and a pending High Court ruling as reasons for his absence.
However, Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi ruled that an application for a stay of proceedings does not operate as an order of stay, and therefore, Ssemakadde’s absence was unjustified.
The court had previously given Ssemakadde the benefit of doubt and rescheduled his appearance for February 24, 2025. However, his failure to appear led to the issuance of the warrant of arrest, which is returnable on March 19, 2025.
This is the second warrant of arrest issued against Ssemakadde in a span of ten days.
