The Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has issued a grave warning to the National Unity Platform (NUP), accusing the opposition political grouping of adopting an increasingly militant and aggressive stance that could destabilize the country.
In a strongly worded statement, Chris Magezi, Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and the Senior Presidential Advisor on Security Operations (SPASO), condemned the NUP’s leaders and supporters for engaging in what he described as “highly divisive hate speech and incitement to violence.”
Calling the approach “reckless and misguided adventurism,” Magezi urged NUP to abandon its incendiary rhetoric before it spirals into chaos.
He warned that Uganda’s security forces are closely monitoring the situation and will not hesitate to take “decisive countermeasures” should the need arise.
UPDF ON HIGH ALERT
Uganda, situated in the volatile Great Lakes region, serves as a frontline state against a multitude of armed groups vying for power.
Magezi highlighted the nation’s critical role in keeping such violent factions, including terrorist organizations, at bay.

He emphasized that the UPDF, one of the most battle-hardened and vigilant counter-insurgency forces in the world, is closely observing NUP’s activities.
The security establishment is prepared to intervene swiftly should the opposition group’s actions threaten national stability.
A WARNING TO NUP: SEEK LEGITIMATE AVENUES
In a firm rebuke, Magezi reminded political actors that any grievances against the government must be addressed through legal channels such as the courts, rather than through incitement and radical posturing.
“The party would be well served to abandon that incendiary path,” he cautioned, signaling that the security apparatus remains resolute in ensuring peace and stability across Uganda.
With tensions mounting, all eyes are now on NUP’s response.
Will they heed the military’s warning, or are they on a collision course with Uganda’s security forces? The coming days will be crucial in determining the nation’s political trajectory.
