Police have arrested 67 individuals in a late-night crackdown on drunk driving, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety in the city.
The operation, which took place on Saturday night, targeted key areas and led to detentions at Katwe, Jinja Road, and Wandegeya police stations.
According to SP Kananura Michael, who announced the results of the operation via social media, all suspects are currently undergoing processing.
This includes recording statements, fingerprinting, and preparing for court proceedings.
Authorities continue to emphasize the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, urging motorists to exercise responsibility and prioritize road safety.
“We urge all drivers to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol, a crucial step towards reducing road crashes and ensuring safer roads for everyone,” SP Kananura stated.
The Uganda Police Force has intensified operations targeting reckless driving, particularly incidents related to drunk driving, which remains a major contributor to road accidents.
Similar enforcement actions are expected to continue in a bid to curb the growing number of traffic-related fatalities.
Motorists are advised to utilize alternative means of transport if under the influence and to adhere to traffic regulations to avoid legal consequences.
