Heavy rainfall in the early hours of the morning has left several roads in Kampala submerged, making them impassable for motorists and pedestrians alike.
According to a statement by SP Michael Kananura, several areas, including Banda, Kyambogo, and Kinawataka (Katogo), have been severely affected by the floods.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes, particularly the Northern Bypass, to avoid the affected areas and minimize delays.
“The areas of Banda, Kyambogo & Kinawataka (Katogo) have become impassable. Motorists are advised to use the Northern Bypass as an alternative route to avoid delays & inconveniences,” SP Kananura stated via social media.
The flooding has caused significant disruption to daily commuters, with many unable to reach their workplaces or homes on time.
Some vehicles have reportedly stalled in flooded sections, worsening traffic congestion in the city.
Authorities have urged motorists and pedestrians to remain patient and wait until the water levels subside before attempting to navigate the affected areas.
This latest episode of flooding highlights Kampala’s vulnerability to heavy rains, often exacerbated by poor drainage systems.
Many residents have called for urgent interventions to address the city’s drainage infrastructure and prevent recurrent flooding during the rainy season.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge the public to exercise caution while traveling. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
