Authorities have uncovered new details in the ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of 23-year-old Martha Murari Ahumuza, who collapsed at Mezo Noir, a high-end bar in Kololo, and later succumbed at Kampala Hospital.

According to police sources, Ahumuza had left the residence of her boyfriend late at night before proceeding to the popular entertainment venue last Wednesday.

The boyfriend has since provided a statement to the police, offering insights into the events preceding her death.

Investigators disclosed that Ahumuza had informed her boyfriend that she was going home to collect some clothes and would return. However, she did not come back.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage places Ahumuza at Mezo Noir at approximately 2:00 a.m., where she was seen in the company of a man believed to be Edward Mugabo, a manager at the establishment.

Mugabo is one of four suspects who have been taken into custody. He was observed wearing a navy-blue suit, a pink shirt, and a checked necktie when he recorded his statement at Jinja Road Police Station.

A police source stated, “According to the young man, Ahumuza left his residence late at night, claiming she needed to pick up clothes from home and would return. However, she never came back. He later learned of her death after she had visited Mezo Noir.”

The exact circumstances leading to Ahumuza’s collapse remain unclear, though preliminary findings suggest that she and Mugabo engaged in a private meeting within one of the club’s offices before she lost consciousness.

Consequently, operations at Mezo Noir have been suspended pending further investigations.

Authorities are currently awaiting forensic and toxicology examination results to determine whether drugs or other substances were present in Ahumuza’s system.

A police forensic expert stated, “These tests will help establish whether she consumed any harmful substances prior to her collapse.”

Additionally, forensic teams are conducting examinations to ascertain the possibility of sexual activity before her death.

Family Seeks Justice

Ahumuza’s family has vowed to uncover the truth surrounding her tragic passing. The daughter of Seth Murari, a prominent businessman in Mbarara City, Ahumuza was laid to rest at Nyarubanga, Mbarara, on Sunday.

Arrest of Suspects

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the case.

Timeline of Events

Detectives reviewing CCTV footage from the nightclub confirmed that Ahumuza and Mugabo met inside the establishment at 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to investigators, Ahumuza had driven herself to the nightclub, parking her vehicle near the entrance before entering the premises.

She was then seen interacting with Mugabo, who is both a manager and the brother of the bar’s owner.

Mugabo allegedly offered Ahumuza a drink, after which they proceeded to one of the rooms inside the club.

A detective disclosed, “Approximately 30 minutes later, Mugabo exited the room carrying Ahumuza, who appeared unresponsive. She was then placed inside a vehicle.”

Mugabo later stated in his police report that he rushed Ahumuza to a nearby hospital. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of her death.
