A fatal road crash claimed the lives of two people and left eight others injured on the night of March 25, 2025, at Mazuba, Maganda Sub County, along the Iganga-Mbale Highway in Namutumba District.
According to a statement from the Uganda Police, the crash involved three vehicles: a Tata Lorry (registration number UBQ 901S), a Toyota Hiace (registration number UBJ 358P), and an unidentified vehicle.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Toyota Hiace was speeding and attempted to overtake the Tata Lorry.
In an effort to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle, the Hiace driver swerved, scraping the side of the Tata Lorry.
The impact caused the front driver’s corner of the lorry to shear off the Hiace’s roof, leading to the Hiace overturning multiple times.
Tragically, two people lost their lives at the scene, while eight others sustained injuries.
The injured victims were promptly transported to Iganga Hospital for medical attention, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Toyota Hiace fled the scene and remains at large. An active investigation is underway to locate the driver and establish further details about the crash.
This accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of speeding and reckless overtaking on Uganda’s roads.
The Uganda Police has urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and practice safe overtaking to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
