Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has cracked down on environmental violators, arresting the manager of Oxygas and the in-charge of Markks Packaging Industry in Nakawa for illegally discharging sewage into a storm drain channel.
According to KCCA’s spokesperson, the arrests followed multiple warnings that were ignored by the companies.
Authorities say the reckless disposal of waste posed a severe health risk to the public, prompting decisive action.
“KCCA has been engaging these businesses regarding proper waste disposal, but despite repeated notices, they continued to pollute the environment,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Dumping sewage into storm drains not only contaminates water sources but also increases the spread of diseases, raising concerns about public health and environmental safety in Kampala.
KCCA has vowed to take further action against businesses violating public health and environmental regulations, warning others to comply or face similar consequences.
Investigations are ongoing, and additional charges may be filed against the companies involved.
